This year we have heard of many excellent exhibitions from around the world that introduce new technology to manufacturing industries. To promote today’s thriving rail industry in the UK, Railtex took place this May at the NEC. This was the largest rail exhibition in the UK for over 20 years and helped to provide unique networking opportunities over the three days.
The show attracted many visitors and exhibitors from around the globe as well as leading keynote speakers at the various seminars. The stand space has grown over the past few years- in 2009 it was just 6970m² and this year it reached an impressive area of 8230m².
Two of Leader CNCs principals, FAT Haco and DTI, have joined forces to be able to provide a range of machining centres for rails, frame structures and switch crossings, together with CNC lathes for axles, wheel sets and centering operations.
Within the U.K. there are now many positive areas for the rail industry such as the HS2 project that will create over 27,000 jobs. It estimated that the number of HS2 jobs already subject to issued tenders, with the majority of these being in the civil engineering sector, is 14,450. The London to Birmingham phase 1 of the project is expected to receive Royal Assent later this year or early next year, with construction starting in 2017.
Despite the large volume of work, skilled engineers are in short supply and it is up to machine tool manufacturers to assist by providing best solutions and machine tools
