Takumi Release New 5-Axis Machine – U800 MT

on 9th September 2019

Our newest principal Takumi have just announced the release of a new gantry type 5-axis mill/turn centre - the U800 MT. The U800MT, generally based on the current U800 model, is equipped with a high torque tilting rotary table and a mill-turn spindle, the combination of which makes the U800MT capable of 5-axis machining, rotary milling and turning. This machine offers manufacturers within the aerospace, automotive, power generation and subcon sectors the ability to complete parts Ø800mm in diameter, 500mm high and weighing up to 1,200 kg.

Using FEA technology, Takumi have produced a machine structure comprising of a single-piece cast base, stepped-ladder cast cross-rail and cast spindle carrier / trunnion – all of which contribute to suppress vibration and absorb high cutting forces. The twin drive Y-axis gantry has a rapid feedrate of 48M/min with high acceleration/deceleration.

The 32 / 64 position automatic tool changer is driven by the servo motors which results in fast tool change-over. The German built mill/turn HSK-T63 spindle has a speed of 10,000rpm and has high operating torque and a high clamping force when turning. The built-in rotary table and trunnion unit is driven by three torque motors with a maximum C axis speed of 800rpm, the tilting axes being securely clamped whilst turning.

The U800MT is equipped with the latest Heidenhain iTNC640 HSCI control with the powerful 1.8GHz processor, HEROS 5 operating interface with PDF viewer and 15” XGA display screen.

Takumi are based in Taichung City, Taiwan which has become a centre of excellence for technology, evidenced by the manufacture of machine tools and components for many Japanese machine tool companies. Takumi have been manufacturing high precision machine tools for over 30 years and, having established themselves in Asia, have expanded into Europe and the USA. Their product range includes vertical machining centres, 5-axis machines and bridge type machining centres, machines being available in many configurations to suit individual requirements and budgets.

Takumi have announced their presence at this year’s EMO in Hannover and will be on booth D52 in Hall 27. They’ll be showing two machines tools. The U600 5-axis machining centre is one of the U/UC Series covering many models, both 4+1 and full 5-axis, all offering exceptional performance and high accuracy. The H10 bridge type machining centre has exceptional rigidity, achieved by 4-6 roller blocks per guideway, shorter and lighter headstocks to decrease deflection and a sliding top roof cover for ease of overhead part loading.
